beatjesus This is the album that introduced me to Buck 20 odd years ago and it has a special place in my heart. I'd never heard anything like it. The way it works as a single piece of art. Buck creates a whole sound world. Like yer plugged directly into his brain. So it was fascinating and nostalgic to hear this OG version now. I dug the Singapore cover and all the extra stuff at the end of part 2,but man that production on the track from about 14:30 into part 2 is so dope. Thanks once again, Buck! Favorite track: Part 2.

linqsikks An early version of the album prompting Radiohead's endorsement of Buck 65, and the interest of record labels. This album brought a distinctively Canadian underground sound into the spotlight, and into view for a larger audience. Many of us (including myself), were inspired to make music as a later result of this key moment. I'm not sure Buck 65 would've reached my ears on the other side of Canada otherwise, and I'm thankful. Favorite track: Part 2.

Buddy Peace I've heard tell of this original version, and heard a couple of bits off it somehow over the past, but good lord it's wonderful to see it in an official capacity all up on here now. The Anticon version's been in rotation for me for, I dunno, around two decades or so, and having this version is a beautiful closure on an old chapter. The Survival Of The Fittest jam at the end of part 2 is wonderful as well, it's so nice to have that properly now.

about

Available for the first time! This is the original version of the Man Overboard album from 1999. You could call it the demo version although lots of material from this version made it to the final version. This first draft is 15 minutes longer than the final version (which is already long), so this is not an album for the impatient. You may need to digest it in two sittings. It includes a bunch of stuff that was eventually dropped and a bunch of stuff that was re-worked for the Square album. Some would say this first version of the album is extra-over-indulgent. I would say it’s a funner version. The final version has more gloom. And by the way, this was recorded on a 4-track cassette recorder, so it's lo-fi, to put it mildly.

And in case you're wondering, the 4 cassettes in the artwork are the original 4-track tapes.

Enjoy!
